Our Story
Gippsland Stars is an elite netball program that competes in the Victorian Netball League.
The Gippsland Stars joined the premier state level competition in 2024 in the newly created 23 & Under division before entering both the Championship and 23 & Under divisions in 2025. The program is aligned with the Gippsland League consisting of ten of the region's largest towns/cities. Bairnsdale, Drouin, Leongatha, Maffra, Moe, Morwell, Sale, Traralgon, Warragul and Wonthaggi, while the league covers six local councils: Baw Baw, Bass Coast, East Gippsland, Latrobe City, South Gippsland and Wellington. The program also encompasses players from the entire region including district League’s and local netball associations which now feature four main teams including;
Championship Team – Gippsland’s elite senior side competing in the Victorian Netball League.
23 & Under Team – Gippsland’s elite side for ages 23-16 competing in the Victorian Netball League.
19 & Under Team – official development team playing in the State Super Netball Series 19U Division 1
17 & Under Team – official development team playing in the State Super Netball Series 19U Division 2
Our team operate as a program structure overseen by an operational working committee of the Gippsland League. Gippsland covers 6 LGA's including Baw Baw Shire, Bass Coast, South Gippsland, Latrobe City, Wellington and East Gippsland. The team would be based in Traralgon, Latrobe City as a central point for travel for players in other LGA's. Latrobe City has a population of 77,318 people. The Gippsland team would ensure that not just the western corridor is serviced but includes a central point with accessible travel for areas in East Gippsland and Wellington (Sale, Maffra).
Boasting the title of the premier netball competition in Victoria, the Victorian Netball League prides itself on developing some of Australia’s best athletes, coaches, umpires and officials. Highlighting the importance of the VNL in the pathway, there are a number of current and former VNL head coaches having held coaching roles at SSN clubs, and a large number of umpires and bench officials officiating SSN matches. With 12 games per round encompassing 12 clubs across two divisions (Championship and 23 & Under), the VNL continues to be a pivotal competition in the Netball Victoria pathway.
